I’ve found myself with lots of new stuff in my RSS feed, partly because I have added so many feeds to it recently.

I like the influx of new content and it’s obviously easier to keep track of new articles this way, rather than going to each individual site. I have a big gripe though…

It lacks character.

I often read an article and forget about the rest of what’s important – the author and the brand. Part of what we feel when we read something is to do with the structure of a web page. Small things like colour and the extra content, in the sidebar for example.

So recently I have found myself wading through articles that lack a personal feel to them and I’ve begun to attribute some of this to the lack of design and identity within an RSS reader.

Which brings me to ask whether it’s better to just feed snippets, rather than full articles, into an RSS feed? Ultimately drawing more visitors to a page, enhancing the visual appeal and capitalising on advertising revenue.

SkypeSkype app for the iPhone

Using skype is great, especially for long distance calls. Sometimes it feels a bit wrong to be sat talking into your computer and the skype app allows you to talk with your phone to your ear – no different from a conventional phone call. The only drawback is that, currently, skype can only be used over wifi.

Apple RemoteApple iTunes Remote app for the iPhone

If you own an apple computer this app lets you take control of it through iTunes. Great for parties when you can start the apple DJ – simply pass your iPhone (or iPod touch) around and let your guests request their favourite tracks to your virtual DJ! With the forthcoming iPad it will be interesting to see if this app can be further developed.

Amazingly useful app. I cannot recall the amount of times I have been somewhere and heard a song I like but not known the artist or song name… Shazam solves this problem. Simply press ‘tag now’ and Shazam will listen to the song for you and in a matter of seconds tell you the details – even allowing you to click through and buy it from iTunes.

Spotify is a complete revolution in the way we listen to music.
