I’ve found myself with lots of new stuff in my RSS feed, partly because I have added so many feeds to it recently.
I like the influx of new content and it’s obviously easier to keep track of new articles this way, rather than going to each individual site. I have a big gripe though…
It lacks character.
I often read an article and forget about the rest of what’s important – the author and the brand. Part of what we feel when we read something is to do with the structure of a web page. Small things like colour and the extra content, in the sidebar for example.
So recently I have found myself wading through articles that lack a personal feel to them and I’ve begun to attribute some of this to the lack of design and identity within an RSS reader.
Which brings me to ask whether it’s better to just feed snippets, rather than full articles, into an RSS feed? Ultimately drawing more visitors to a page, enhancing the visual appeal and capitalising on advertising revenue.
These ten apps from apple’s appstore make using the iPhone even more appealing. Here are my top ten apps that I couldn’t be without and best of all, most of them are free!
With over 400 million facebook users this app is sure to be on most peoples iPhone. Feed your social media addiction whenever you want, upload photos and stay in touch. This app gets better with every update.
Keep up to date with one of the many great Twitter apps available. Find out what’s happening in the world or what you favourite celebrity is up to. Tweet ’til your hearts content and you too can feel famous…
Using skype is great, especially for long distance calls. Sometimes it feels a bit wrong to be sat talking into your computer and the skype app allows you to talk with your phone to your ear – no different from a conventional phone call. The only drawback is that, currently, skype can only be used over wifi.
If you own an apple computer this app lets you take control of it through iTunes. Great for parties when you can start the apple DJ – simply pass your iPhone (or iPod touch) around and let your guests request their favourite tracks to your virtual DJ! With the forthcoming iPad it will be interesting to see if this app can be further developed.
This app has great in-depth reviews and information on the latest movies. Not only that but it also finds and remembers your nearest/favourite cinema theatres and displays all their listings – can be used with GPS to locate local cinemas.
A good example of an app being easier to use than the website. Very well thought out and works very well, never need miss that last minute bid again!
Amazingly useful app. I cannot recall the amount of times I have been somewhere and heard a song I like but not known the artist or song name… Shazam solves this problem. Simply press ‘tag now’ and Shazam will listen to the song for you and in a matter of seconds tell you the details – even allowing you to click through and buy it from iTunes.
Shows off the capabilities of the iPhone tremendously. Beautiful interface that really brings the iPhone’s touch screen into play and seems so intuitive. I can’t
My virtual brain. No longer do I have to remember everything, simply snip it or take a picture and evernote will take care of it for me.
Whether your feeling bored or just inquisitive this app is perfect. Fill your brain with ever more facts and information and replace the void left from all the evernotes you have created.
With only ten apps to list I had a tough time deciding on the final few and there are loads more that deserve recognition. What are your favourite’s?
